Intercultural Christmas dinner with the migrants in Arica

On Sunday, December 18, International Migrant Day, the Scalabrini Foundation and Incami Arica organized a beautiful dinner for 400 people, delivered over 200 gifts to children and 200 family grosery baskets to poor migrants.

The resources for this event were managed by the intendant of Arica and Parinacota, through the funds of the presidential grant. The Scalabrini Foundation postulated these funds and was benefited to carry out this activity. Numerous migrants and their families from 11 countries were benefited.

Cena Navideña intercultural con los migrantes en Arica

El domingo 18 de diciembre, día internacional del migrante, La Fundación Scalabrini y el Incami Arica, organizaron una hermosa cena para 400 personas, entregaron más de 200 regalos a los niños y 200 canastas familiares a los migrantes de escasos recursos.

Los recursos para este evento  fueron gestionados por la intendenta de Arica y Parinacota, a través de los fondos de la subvención presidencial. La Fundación Scalabrini postuló a estos fondos y fue beneficiada para realizar esta actividad. Fueron beneficiados numerosos migrantes y sus familias, representando 11 países.

Statement of the Scalabrini International Migration Network on United Nation’s International Migrants Day - December 18, 2016

On the United Nation’s International Migrants Day, we offer our solidarity and support to the more than 244 million persons around the globe on the move.  The Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) opens its arms to those who are forced from their homes by violence, economic insecurity, climate change, or other factors.   With more than 250 programs worldwide—schools, community centers, and shelters – we serve persons who are migrating, regardless of their legal status.  We also work in local communities, national capitals, and in the U.N. system to promote the rights of all persons on the move.

We live during a challenging time with regard to global migration.  The number of those fleeing their home countries continues to increase, while a wave of xenophobia and intolerance sweeps across the globe.
