Florenzo Rigoni, director of a Scalabrinian Shelter in Mexico and representative of SIMN in Mexico will be speaking on Monday, September 19, 2016, in Conference Room 11 of the United Nations Headquarters, The Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations, together with the International Catholic Migration Commission and Caritas Internationalis, is sponsoring a  High-Level Side Event entitled “Responsibility and Solution Sharing: The Role of Religious Organizations in Responding to Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants.”

Scalabrinians and refugee emergency: a second welcoming center open in the South of Italy

On Tuesday August 23rd, 2016 the first guests arrived in the new C.A.R.A. SCALABRINI, site Siponto (FG), promoted by the Scalabrini Missionaries and the Scalabrinian Agency for Development Cooperation (ASCS), in continuity with the structure already opened in Rome for the third reception. The building, in dialogue with the Prefecture, can accommodate 33 asylum seekers in a structure adjacent to the current religious house and it was once the seminar for middle school students.

Martedì 23 agosto 2016 sono arrivati i primi ospiti del nuovo C.A.R.A. SCALABRINI, sito a Siponto (FG), promosso dai Missionari Scalabriniani e dall’Agenzia Scalabriniana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (ASCS), in ideale continuità con la struttura già aperta a Roma per la terza accoglienza. L’edificio, in accordo con la prefettura, può accogliere 33 richiedenti asilo in una struttura adiacente all’attuale casa religiosa, già sede in passato di formazione seminariale per gli studenti delle scuole medie.

The outcome document approved by member states today falls short of creating a new framework for the protection of refugees and migrants around the world. Instead, it reaffirms the status quo, and, in some areas, weakens current protections for these vulnerable populations.
