Since early June, squid jigging vessels have been returning to Cianjhen and Xiaogang from the Falkland Islands one after another.

When Stella Maris Kaohsiung visited some young fishers on their vessels, they discussed several improvements made during the latest trip, such as more consistent hot water showers and increased availability of Wi-Fi. Stella Maris Kaohsiung appreciates the employers’ efforts to provide better facilities on the vessels. However, some fishers complained that long working hours and demanding tasks leave them with less time to communicate with their families, as they need to rest for the next shift.

It is not easy for them to decide whether to sacrifice family time or adequate sleep. It is actually the responsibility of the government to revise regulations to ensure that fishers have enough time for rest and recreation after work.

Stella Maris Kaohsiung organized a welcoming dinner for the fishers after visiting them at the ports. On Sunday, July 14, Stella Maris Kaohsiung organized a small barbecue and sharing gathering for them and other fishers who also work on squid jigging vessels. Fr. Yance shared his experiences with language barriers when he first came to Taiwan and also talked about his new experiences in the Philippines. Fr. Trinh came to greet the fishers after a full day of duties in the church.

Desde principios de junio, los barcos de pesca de calamares han estado regresando a Cianjhen y Xiaogang desde las Islas Malvinas uno tras otro.
