On November 24, 2025, the Santa Rosa de Lima Shelter in Tacna, Peru, celebrates a decade of service, faith, and solidarity in supporting migrants and refugees traveling through the southern region of the country. Since its founding in 2015 by the Missionaries of St. Charles \u2013 Scalabrinians, the Shelter has become a leading example of the Church’s humanitarian response to the challenges of human mobility in one of Peru’s most dynamic border areas.<\/p>\n
The Shelter’s work goes far beyond offering a safe place to rest. Its mission includes psychosocial support, assistance with paperwork, guidance for integration, protection, and the creation of a suitable environment for children, who receive care tailored to their age and needs. Each service aims to guarantee holistic support, respecting the history, rights, and dignity of every person served.<\/p>\n
Tacna, due to its strategic location on the southern border, receives a significant flow of people in transit every day. Many stay only a few days, while they wait to regularize their status or meet the necessary requirements to continue their journey. In this context, the Santa Rosa de Lima Shelter has become a key point of support, providing rapid, humane, and ethical responses to the urgent needs of human mobility.<\/p>\n
Celebrating these 10 years is to honor a history built on effort, dedication, and solidarity; a history marked by challenges overcome and countless lives accompanied and transformed. It is also to renew the Scalabrinian commitment to \u201cmake the world the homeland of all humanity,\u201d following the legacy of Saint John Baptist Scalabrini.<\/p>\n
