Casa del Migrante in Tijuana, AC and Club Caballos announced their first athletic race of 5 km, “Run for the migrants”, the frame of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Center and in benefit of the programs and services offered free of charge to the Migrants who attend daily.
The race took place on July 16, 2017; it started at 7:30 am, with departure and finish at the CREA Tijuana facilities. It counted on five categories in men and women modalities, Youth (15 -19), Adults (20-29), Master A (30-39), Master B (40-49) and Master C (50+). In addition, prices were given to the first three absolute places of the race in both modalities.
“Run for migrants” aimed to promote, through sport, respect for the migrant community and raise awareness of the difficulties faced by people who are forced to leave their place of origin because of violence, poverty and inequality. At present, migratory flows to Tijuana are constantly increasing, deportees, displaced and refugees who escape their own homeland traveling thousands of miles looking for a better life away from poverty, hunger, exploitation and violence.
“The invitation to run 5 km, is a representation of thousands of children and adults from around the world, is a call for solidarity with these people and the pilgrimage they are doing in search for a little peace and security for them and their families “(Father Pat Murphy, Director of Casa del Migrante).
