Montreal, November 24, 2016 – The Scalabrini Centre for Migrants and Refugees of Montreal celebrated its 15th anniversary, and the Scalabrini International Migration Network was pleased to announce the First National Forum on Migration and Peace held on November 23, 2016 in Montreal.
The Forum provided an opportunity to bring people together from different cultures, including members of the United Nations, National Governments and International Charitable Foundations to discuss the complex and global issues of migration.
This year’s expert panelists included the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations Archbishop Bernardito Auza; UNHCR Representative in Canada Mr. Johannes van der Klaauw; the Director General of Migratory Promotion and Attraction Directorate, Mme. Melissa Caron. Ministry of Migration, Diversity and Inclusion Quebec.
The main topics discussed were “Challenges and Shared Responsibilities on Human Trafficking: Causes and Consequences” and “Challenges and Shared Responsibilities on Migration’s Governance from Central America and Mexico to Canada”.
