El pasado 15 de enero la Iglesia celebró la Jornada Mundial del Migrante y el Refugiado; el tema que el Papa Francisco eligió para esta 103a Jornada fue “Emigrantes, menores de edad, vulnerables y sin voz”, que se centra en la situación de los niños migrantes y refugiados.

Esta Jornada tiene su origen en la circular “El dolor y la preocupación” que la Sagrada Congregación Consistorial mandó el 6 de diciembre de 1914 a los obispos italianos solicitando la institución de una Jornada anual de sensibilización sobre el fenómeno de la migración y la organización de una colecta en favor de las obras pastorales para los emigrantes italianos y la formación de los misioneros para emigración. Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, March 30, 2917 – As a clear sign of support for the call of Pope Francis to look back at migrants, displaced persons, victims of trafficking and refugees, the Department of Justice and Solidarity (DEJUSOL) Latin American Episcopal Conference (CELAM) brought together, between the 27^th and 30^th March, a large number of organizations of human mobility, shelter and trafficking in persons of the Catholic Church of Latin America and the Caribbean to form the Latin American and Caribbean Migration Network, Shelter and Human Trafficking (CLAMOR for its Spanish acronym).

The meeting included a working day on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic (Dajabón and Ounaminthe), where participants could visit the missionary works for migrants and share with displaced and Haitian migrants living in so-called shelters or bateyes in the area of Guayubin.  Continue reading The CLAMOR Network Was Established, in Favor of the Migrant, Refugee and Enslaved People of Latin America and the Caribbean →
