Panama City, January 24, 2024 — The Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN), participated in the VI MIRPS Annual Meeting and High-Level Solidarity Event in Panama City, Panama. The event was a crucial space for dialogue and collaboration on migration issues, bringing together government representatives, international organizations, and civil society actors.
This event was a space in which the MIRPS countries – Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Panama – shared their progress in the implementation of their national and regional MIRPS plans while identifying priorities for their implementation work in 2024. In the High-Level Solidarity Segment, led by the United States as Presidency of the Support Platform, member countries, development banks, and other key actors, shared their contributions and support so that the regional plans move forward.
SIMN, recognized for its dedication to defending migrant rights and promoting sustainable solutions, actively participated in key sessions of the meeting. Its representative provided valuable perspectives on the protection of the rights of displaced people and highlighted the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in addressing current migration challenges.
During the VI MIRPS Annual Meeting, SIMN underlined its strong commitment to promoting dialogue and collaboration to provide greater protection and support to migrants and refugees globally. The organization emphasized the need to advocate for sustainable solutions and highlighted its experience in providing humanitarian, educational, and health services to those affected by forced human mobility.
