Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) Participated at the 5th Annual Meeting of the United Nations Network on Migration

Gevena, January 30, 2023 — Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) participated at the 5th Annual Meeting of the United Nations Network on Migration. The 5th Annual Meeting of the United Nations Network on Migration took place on January 30-31, 2024, and was open to all Network members, stakeholder partners, and UN Member States.

The Annual Meeting focused on three overarching themes, through which to review the Network’s impact and progress in working with stakeholders and Member States as they implement the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM).

Discussion under these themes provided an opportunity to gauge progress supporting the implementation of the GCM at global, regional, and national levels, seek ways to enhance collaboration, identify emerging challenges for future action, and take decisions as necessary. The themes were:

1. Maximizing the Development Promise of Migration
2. Protecting Migrants’ Rights and Saving Lives
3. Future of Migration

The Annual Meeting was part of the second edition of Migration Week, a biennial event that aims to promote dialogue on migration-related issues.

The event, a cornerstone for international collaboration, convened representatives from governments, civil society, and international organizations to address pressing issues in the realm of migration.

As the meeting provided a platform for dialogue on key migration-related topics, SIMN underscored its dedication to promoting inclusive policies, human rights protections, and holistic support for migrants and refugees globally. The organization emphasized the importance of fostering partnerships and collaborative initiatives to create a more just and compassionate approach to migration.

“We are honored to have been part of the 5th Annual Meeting of the United Nations Network on Migration, contributing to vital conversations on the rights and well-being of migrants globally,” stated Fr. Márcio Toniazzo, Executive Director at SIMN. “Our active involvement reflects our ongoing commitment to advocating for the rights of vulnerable populations and working collaboratively towards comprehensive solutions.”

As SIMN continues its mission to serve migrants and displaced communities on a global scale, the organization remains steadfast in its dedication to influencing policies, fostering partnerships, and contributing to meaningful discussions at international forums.
