Traditionally, Germany has been a leader in the European economic system, providing employment and social services to those who cannot find them in their home countries. Today, Italians migrants represent one of the largest foreign populations in the country. Currently, the Scalabrinians run 11 chaplaincies, including those in Frankfurt, Köln, Ludwigsburg, Munich, Stuttgart, and Waiblingen.
