Scalabrini efforts in Luxembourg began in 1946 in the southern mining basin of Esch-sur-Alzette. The Scalabrinians were successful in serving Italian migrants who arrived in search of employment. In recent years, the Scalabrinians have refocused their efforts to serve at-risk migrant populations, most notably the Portuguese. Currently, the Scalabrinians run 5 chaplaincies in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg Ville, and Schieren.
