On Sunday, May 24, Casa del Migrante in Tijuana joyfully and gratefully celebrated its 39th anniversary of service and accompaniment to people on the move, reaffirming its commitment to human dignity, solidarity, and hope. This year’s celebration was made even more meaningful as it coincided with Pentecost, highlighting the richness and beauty of languages and cultures and demonstrating how migration itself becomes a celebration.

The day began with a moving Eucharistic celebration at San Felipe de Jesús Parish, where migrants, staff members, benefactors, volunteers, partners, and community members gathered to give thanks for 39 years of humanitarian service dedicated to those most in need.

The activities then continued at Casa del Migrante, where a commemorative ceremony was held and led by Fr. Giovanni Bizzotto, C.S., Provincial Superior of the Missionaries of St. Charles, and Bro. Raúl Ochoa, C.S., Director of Casa del Migrante in Tijuana. Both shared reflections and words of gratitude, emphasizing the importance of continuing to build a supportive community committed to the dignified accompaniment of migrants.

During the event, a report on the services provided throughout 2025 was also presented, highlighting the impact of the work carried out through the House’s various programs and services. This moment provided an opportunity to recognize the collective efforts of staff, volunteers, and partners who make the mission of Casa del Migrante possible every day.

One of the most moving moments of the celebration was the presentation of a posthumous recognition to Natale Matteotti in honor of his valuable contribution and commitment to the House. The recognition was received by his wife, son, and granddaughters in a heartfelt ceremony filled with gratitude, remembrance, and affection.

The celebration concluded with a community gathering in the House’s courtyard, where attendees shared a joyful and fraternal space accompanied by music and fellowship.

Throughout these 39 years, Casa del Migrante in Tijuana has been a place of welcome, accompaniment, and hope for thousands of people. This anniversary represents not only a celebration of the journey traveled so far, but also a renewed commitment to continue working toward a more humane, supportive, and compassionate society.
