Kaohsiung, Taiwan, November 28, 2020 – On November 28th, 1887, Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini founded the Congregation of Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo -Scalabrinians. The mission of this Congregation is to serve the migrants, seafarers and refugees all over the world. This Congregation is now present in 32 countries on 5 continents.
To celebrate the 133rd anniversary of this Congregation, the Filipino Community in Kaohsiung under the guidance of Fr. Lucio Bulla, CS celebrated a mass and a Thanksgiving celebration. The celebration included the parish priest of St. Joseph, the worker Nanze, Fr. Peter Pan, 5 Scalabrinian Missionaries working in the Archdiocese of Kaohsiung and the diocese of Tainan, Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) representatives, some sponsors, and the Filipino migrant communities.
On this occasion, the Filipino Community organized a fashion show and a talent show. They wear traditional clothes of the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan and Australia. The celebration was indeed a joyful one.
The Scalabrinian Missionaries are present in three cities in Taiwan; Taipei, Kaohsiung and Tainan. They are serving the migrants, seafarers and fishers. Scalabrinians have also a Stella Maris shelter for the migrants in difficulty in Kaohsiung.
