Some data from the Scalabrinian parish Nuestra Señora Madre de los Emigrantes in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, March 12, 2021 – In this Lenten season characterized by the persistence of the pandemic, assistance to migrants continues in Scalabrinian missions and parishes. Among them is the Parroquia Nuestra Señora Madre de los Emigrantes, in the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The missionary Father Sidnei Marco Dornelas supervised the publication of the recent newsletter migraciones of the Departamento de Migraciones about the Scalabrinian reality, which we propose here.

The document Lent and Migration, which illustrates the activities of February 2021, focuses in particular on supporting documentation and obtaining food and clothing in full compliance with anti-coronavirus restrictions. In the month in question, 830 people were treated, of which 499 came only from Venezuela, a country that has experienced a desperate mass exodus in recent years due to the social, economic, and political crisis, and the Covid-19 health emergency.

Father Dornelas, Director of CEMLA

Since 2019, Father Sidnei Marco Dornelas is Director and President of the Center for Latin American Migration Studies (CEMLA) in Buenos Aires, one of the seven entities that are part of the Federation of Scalabrinian Centers for Migration Studies, which are in charge of promoting and dissemination of research studies on human mobility in the world.

He recently collaborated in the drafting of Scalabrinian Action in the Covid-19 Pandemic in South America, the document that presents the Scalabrinian responses and initiatives in the South American region in times of pandemic.
