Inauguration of the New Welcoming Center “Aldea Arcoíris” in Guadalajara, Mexico

Guadalajara, Mexico, November 13, 2018 – On November 9, 2018, the new Scalabrinian Welcoming Center “Aldea Arcoíris” was inaugurated in the neighborhood Álamo Industrial, Guadalajara, Mexico. The Auxiliary Bishop of Guadalajara, Bishop Juan Manuel Muñoz Curiel, blessed the new Welcoming Center. The Center has the support of the business sector of Jalisco, above all, Corporativa de Fundaciones, as well as a group of industrialists who will facilitate training and a job exchange.

The new Welcoming Center in Guadalajara is designed to help migrants and deportees to certify their professional skills and to insert themselves in a stable and regular job. The location has the capacity to permanently serve 40 people with lodging and more than 150 with training courses in refrigeration, electricity and other skills. 

About 100 people participated in the event, including Msgr. Juan Manuel Muñoz Curiel, Auxiliary Bishop of Guadalajara, Fr. Leonir Chiarello, Superior General of the Scalabrinian Missionaries, Fr. Miguel Álvarez, Superior of the Province of San Juan Bautista of the Scalabrinian Missionaries , Fr. Flor María Rigoni, Director of the Casa del Migrante in Tapachula, Guadalajara and Mexico City, Arturo Jiménez, President of Corporativa de Fundaciones, David Pérez Rulfo, Executive Director of Corporativa de Fundaciones, together with the Scalabrinian missionaries of Guadalajara, friends and benefactors.

“This new Welcoming Center is a place for the reception, protection, promotion and integration of migrants and deportees that the Scalabrinian missionaries have implemented to respond to the current challenges of migration in Mexico and the region. We appreciate the support of Corporativa de Fundaciones, private and international organizations in the implementation of this Welcoming Center,” said P. Leonir Chiarello, Superior General of the Scalabrinian missionaries.
