San Salvador, October 12, 2018 – The Missionaries of San Carlos Scalabrinianos Foundation, the Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN), Casas del Migrante Network and UNHCR held the third Regional Migration and Peace Forum on October 11, 2018. With the theme Building Durable Solutions for the Reintegration of Migrants and Refugees Into the Labor Market, the event focused on the government’s challenges to guarantee the economic stability of returned Salvadorans.
The main topics discussed were the diagnosis of job opportunities for deportees in vulnerable situations, the comprehensive responses to job opportunities for migrants and refugees and finally the challenges for the reintegration of refugees, migrants and forced returnees.
Some participants of the event included the Director of Casa del Migrante, Fr. Mauro Antonio Verzeletti, Saúl Díaz Ortiz from the Swiss Foundation for Cooperation for Technical Development, Elsa Ramos from the Technological University of El Salvador, Oscar Rosales, Head of the Section of Migrant Workers of the Ministry of Labor, Mr. Iván Martínez, Project Manager of Guatemala Te Incluye, Mr. Cesar Ríos of INSAMI and Ms. Elisa Carlaccini, Chief of Mission UNHCR in El Salvador.
The Forum provided an opportunity to highlight challenges and obstacles to provide lasting responses to the labor reintegration of migrants, deportees and refugees. By joining forces both the government, international and national civil society organizations, churches and the general population, they can shape up projects that benefit people in situations of vulnerability such as deported people with protection needs, internal forced displaced, refugees and migrants.
