New York, April 21, 2025 – With profound sorrow and Christian hope, the Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) and the Scalabrinian Family worldwide mourn the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a tireless defender of human dignity, migrants, refugees, and displaced persons.
His pontificate was a living witness to the Gospel of mercy and love without borders. From the beginning of his ministry, Pope Francis raised his prophetic voice in favor of those forced to leave their homeland, denouncing the injustices of a system that excludes, and exhorting the Church and humanity to welcome, protect, promote, and integrate migrants. His closeness to the most vulnerable, his visits to borders and refugee camps, and his constant call for universal brotherhood marked a profoundly evangelical and transformative era.
In communion with the universal Church, we offer our prayers for the eternal repose of his soul and give thanks to God for the luminous witness of his life, his pastoral dedication, and his courageous voice on behalf of migrants. His legacy will continue to inspire our mission and commitment to a more just, fraternal, and supportive society.
Rest in the peace of the Lord.
