Scalabrini International Migration Network and UNHCR Renew Partnership to Strengthen Global Support for Migrants and Refugees

Geneva, March 3, 2025 – The Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Geneva, reaffirming their commitment to protecting and assisting migrants, refugees, and displaced individuals worldwide.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi emphasized the significance of this renewed collaboration, stating, “UNHCR is pleased to extend this partnership with SIMN. In these challenging times for human mobility, the work of the Scalabrinians is invaluable. Their dedication to supporting migrants and refugees aligns with our mission, and we look forward to continuing this important collaboration.”

The MoU renewal also set the stage for future joint initiatives between SIMN and UNHCR. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key areas such as research, job placement, advocacy, and innovation, aiming to develop creative and effective solutions to the evolving challenges of human mobility.

Fr. Márcio Toniazzo, Executive Director of SIMN, underscored the importance of this partnership, stating, “This renewed agreement strengthens our ability to respond to the urgent needs of displaced individuals and advocate for humane migration policies. By working together, we can implement programs that provide real opportunities and foster long-term solutions for migrants and refugees.”

At a time when migration crises are increasing due to conflict, economic instability, and climate change, this partnership renewal reflects a shared dedication to ensuring that displaced populations receive the protection, resources, and support they need.
