Solidarity in Action: Supporting Migrants After Floods in Brazil

On May 7th, part of the CIBAI Migrações team visited Esteio and Canoas, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, to provide emergency assistance to migrant and refugee families. The action included the donation of food items, mattresses, bunk beds, blankets, sets of tables and

chairs, kitchen utensils, toys, sweets, school supplies for the children, and other essential items.

The initiative is part of an ongoing project by CIBAI Migrações, launched after the floods that affected the state in 2024. Since then, the project has been maintained with the aim of offering better living conditions to migrant and refugee populations in situations of vulnerability.

During the distribution, Rosa, a Venezuelan national, expressed her gratitude for the donations and emphasized the importance of collaboration between institutions and partners that make such actions possible. The photos show two of the families supported on that day: Rosa’s family and a Haitian woman’s family, accompanied by Father Mário Zambiasi and the social worker Adriana, both from CIBAI Migrações’ staff, alongside the donated items. Also present was Lauryn Severo, a CIBAI staff member who works in the communications department and documented the visit through photos and videos.
