On August 22, 2017, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, on his first official visit to the North of Central America, met with UNHCR’s partner institutions in Guatemala for an overview of trends of displacement in the region.
The meeting took place at the Casa del Migrante of Guatemala City, where Mr. Grandi heard about the mission of each partner institution and called for the humanitarian and protective mission of migrants seeking asylum, refugees, internally displaced persons, deportees and migrants in transit in Guatemala.
On the other hand, Mr. Enrique Valles, Head of UNHCR in Guatemala, spoke on the progress made in the formation of the National Protection Network made up of all the partner institutions, which contribute every day to their work.
