Arica, Chile, October 28, 2021 – On October 25, 26, and 27, in a joint effort by IOM and INCAMI in field operations and with the support of CÁRITAS and Fundación Scalabrini, a member of the SIMN Network in ARICA, an activity was carried out consisting of free advice on immigration legal matters to migrants in Arica. In addition, training was also provided to staff members who serve the migrant population in their integration into the different services. Humanitarian support and assistance has not ceased to be required in emergency situations, a relevant characteristic in this border area. Officials and collaborators were very satisfied with the joint work.
Like all Scalabrinian centers around the world, the Scalabrinian center in Arica guides migrants in an integrated way, that is, providing a service that includes the necessary areas of a migrant person: accommodation, legal advice, spiritual advice, psychological advice, education, and training and support in basic services. From January to September 2021, the Scalabrini center in Arica has managed to assist 1,519 people.
