On World Refugee Day 2026, the Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) joins the international community in honoring the courage, resilience, and contributions of millions of refugees around the world who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, violence, human rights violations, and humanitarian crises.
Today, more than ever, the global reality of forced displacement demands renewed solidarity and collective action. Refugees continue to face immense challenges as they seek safety, protection, and opportunities to rebuild their lives. Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story marked by loss, perseverance, and hope.
At SIMN, we recognize that refugees are not merely beneficiaries of assistance but active agents of change who contribute to the social, cultural, and economic development of the communities that welcome them. Their talents, skills, and experiences enrich societies and demonstrate the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
This year’s observance is an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of policies and practices that place human dignity at the center of refugee protection. Access to legal protection, education, healthcare, housing, decent work, and pathways to social inclusion are essential components of a comprehensive response to forced displacement. Equally important is the promotion of safe and regular pathways that reduce vulnerability and allow refugees to rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
SIMN also calls attention to the growing number of displaced persons worldwide and the need for greater international cooperation and responsibility-sharing. No country can address these challenges alone. Governments, international organizations, civil society, faith-based organizations, local communities, and the private sector must work together to ensure that refugees receive the protection and support they need while fostering social cohesion and mutual understanding.
On this World Refugee Day, we invite our partners, supporters, and followers to stand in solidarity with refugees everywhere. Let us reject discrimination, xenophobia, and exclusion, and instead promote a culture of welcome, protection, inclusion, and shared responsibility.
Together, we can help build a world where every refugee is treated with dignity, where their rights are respected, and where they have the opportunity to live in safety, contribute to society, and pursue a future filled with hope.
The Scalabrini International Migration Network reaffirms its commitment to working alongside refugees and displaced persons worldwide, advocating for policies and practices that uphold human dignity, protect fundamental rights, and foster inclusive communities for all.
