Casa Scalabrini at the Service of Migrants in Lima, Peru

Lima, March 7, 2019 – In Peru, Venezuelan migration registers more than 700,000 thousand Venezuelan citizens, many of them trying to forge a different future in Peru, especially in Lima. Due to this increase in migration, the Scalabrinian Association in partnership with different international institutions such as UNHCR, IOM, and with the support of the Section of Migrants and refugees of the Vatican “Project Bridges of Solidarity”, as well as the Pastoral of Human Mobility of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, opened a new migrant shelter.

The shelter provides comprehensive services that include legal, psychological, spiritual counseling, as well as daily meals and lodging for men, women and entire families. The Director of the house is Fr. Luiz Do Arte cs, and he is in charge of a team of professionals who attend to the different needs of migrants.

Since its opening in mid-August last year, until the end of February 2019, it has served more than 300 cases, becoming a fundamental focal point in the care and reception for migrants in the city of Lima.
